Purpose of Condition Surveys
Condition surveys are carried out in order to ascertain the general and structural condition
of the vessel, the competence and safety management of the crew and the quality of
communication between ship and shore personnel.
The type and scope of survey will depend on the instruction specifications required for each
particular type of ship. The surveyor will inspect the ship in accordance with a format
adopted by Al-Bahriah detailing the specific areas that are to be surveyed for a particular
purpose.

Recommendations
Upon completion of the condition survey, the surveyor will discuss findings with the Master.
In the event of deficiencies, a list of recommendations will be issued and handed to the
Master. A follow-up survey may be necessary for serious recommendations requiring
significant remedial actions.
