Notes on Fire in Engine Room
Crew should ensure that insulation of exhaust pipes is sound and well
maintained near diesel engines during and after maintenance.
Crew should ensure that drain pipes, collecting tanks, engine floor are
kept clean. Oily deposits in bilges should be removed and kept clean.
Crew should ensure that lubricating and hydraulic oil is safely stored as
they may heat and will release gazes and nourish the fire once ignited
in the engine room.
Crew should ensure that lower valves of level of glasses on oil tanks are
automatically closed.
Crew should ensure that entrance door of the engine room is properly
closed.
Crew should ensure that all closing devices in the engine room are
operational.
Crew should ensure that all combustible materials are stored away from
fire exposed areas and that cleanliness is well maintained.
